A west-facing Clearwater Beach slip is about as demanding as it gets in this market. You're getting direct Gulf salt aerosol, full western afternoon sun hitting the starboard side daily, and the highest UV index we see anywhere in Pinellas County. Most ceramic coatings we apply in that environment still perform well at the 18-month mark and hold their hydrophobic properties through 24 months for most owners who do periodic rinse maintenance.
The honest answer is that at 24 months in that specific exposure, you'll want to inspect the coating's hydrophobic performance โ if water beads still break cleanly above 90 degrees, the coating is still performing. If they're spreading more lazily (below 70 degrees), it's approaching end-of-life and due for a maintenance coat or reapplication. Either way, at 24 months in a Clearwater Beach slip, your gelcoat is in dramatically better shape than it would have been under two years of wax maintenance โ and the reapplication at that point is straightforward because the surface is already in good condition.
